Masterlist: Horror Costume Design (1900 - 2010)

The horror genre has been fairly neglected in terms of costume design; perhaps due to the hoity-toity squeamishness of fans of cinematic glamour, or perhaps due to how the bulk of horror cinema of the last century has mostly been 'exploitation' and thus not had the need for costumes.

That tendency has been reversed since at least 2010, as now it is very easy to find detailed interviews with the costume designers for The Conjuring, Hannibal, What We Do In The Shadows, American Horror Story, Crimson Peak, Midsommar, The Substance, and so on.

Thus the films covered in this article, for the most part, will be those from before the 2010s, as these films typically do not have their costumes documented anywhere as thoroughly, if at all! Of course the usual rules apply - NO BOUGHT CLOTHES OR RENTED WARDROBE STOCK!

Some of these articles, especially for the slashers, will include each film's various sequels as well. Some of them may also include costumes of note from other films by the same director.
